we're similar,

~ you and i ~

spiritual beings
engaged in
the becomingness
of being human,

the good,
the bad,
the ugly,
the divine,

all arriving
at this curious crossroads,

~ you and i ~

in one word,

preference.

what do we prefer?

which tomorrow,
from infinite possibility,
will we choose
into form?

what road?
what path?
whose stewardship?

will we keep allowing
trivial concerns,
fear dressed as leadership,
politics dressed as purpose,
to shape
what comes next?

or will we choose
another way,

one more aligned
with nature,
with one another,
with the whole
of life?

because the road
we most truly prefer
is wide enough
for all our ways
of being human.

but first,
we may need
to stop making
you wrong
so i can feel right.

and i may need
to stop making
me right
at the cost of you.

can we begin
with this
one simple truth?

we are in this life
together,

~ you and i ~

not you,
not i,
not one of us
exempt.

not one of us
getting out
of this one
alive
as we are.

so this life
becomes our promise,

~ yours and mine ~

a promise fulfilled
only here,
only now,
only as is,

~ you and i ~

i'll stop making
you wrong.

will you offer
the same?

will you be
willingness enough
to prefer
a world
wide enough
for my way,

as i become
willingness enough
to prefer
a world
wide enough
for yours?

not merely
a world
that works,

but one
that works
in expanded form
for us all,

~ you and i ~

i am asking
because i know
it is within reach,

part of the possibility
of what it means
to be human
in this space
and time.

and yes,
we have real challenges,

locally,
nationally,
globally,

because of the ways
we have collectively preferred,
consciously or not,
all that has become
our shared reality,

again,
as is,

~ you and i ~

still,
i prefer
a world
big enough
for us all.

you may call me naive.
you may call me foolish.

but i really do prefer
a world that includes
you,
i,
the rest of us,
the all
and everything
of life.

and i prefer it
in a way
where we choose
to work together,

~ you and i ~

because somehow
i know,
somewhere
within the core reason
you chose this spacetime
to be,

~ you and i ~

you are up for it too.

why else
would we still
be alive?

so here we are,
at the crossroads,

~ you and i ~

our collective work
is to prefer
into existence
a world
with less b#llsh!t,

less politics
pretending to lead,

less pandering
to the few,

and more of us,

the leaders among us,
the builders among us,
the all of us,

remembering
how to architect,
develop,
and create
what we actually prefer
into living reality.

to what point
would we choose otherwise?

to whose benefit?

yours?

mine?

when we know
there is only

~ you and i ~

let it begin
here and now.

all we need be,
all we need do,
is choose
and become
this remembered preference,

~ you and i ~

we will make mistakes.
no question.

this is part
of being human.

we will get it wrong,

and still,
we will be in this
together,

~ you and i ~

and we will figure it out,
because we are already
making it all up,

all of it,

aren't we?

own this truth.

we can make
shift happen
rapidly,

~ you and i ~

because most every
real challenge
we face,

we are both
cause
and solution to.

~ you and i ~

let this choice
be our awareness.

let our actions
be our confidence.

let our gratitude
be our certainty.

~ yours and mine ~

let this preference
become us,

~ thought,
word,
deed ~

let's,

~ you and i ~

shift this moment
wholly,

right here,
right now,

proactively furthering
our promise,

each playing our role,
doing our part,

from voting
to direct support,

from listening
to building,

from remembering
to including,

each of us
doing our best
to become
and collectively prefer
a world worthy
of our combined
humanity.

to remember,
to include,
to consciously choose,
