sometimes

sometimes,
just sometimes,
i get so lost
in your eyes
i forget every
other pull upon
my heartstring,
every responsibility
i forget what's next
and what's to follow
i forget
where i come from
damn near
forget my name
sometimes,
yes sometimes,
i hope so much
for what might
never be
i forget where i am
and who i am,
ready and willing
to run as far
and as fast
as necessary
just to be
with you
sometimes,
only sometimes,
i can't help but feel
your smile linger
inside my memory
infiltrating
my every dream
dreams of what could be,
dreams of alternate
you's and me's,
where every rule
we know to be so
disappears
where the dreamer
and the dreamed
remain together
forever
inside some mythical
space time
never ready,
never willing,
never choosing
to awaken
sometimes,
more and more,
i check to see
if now is then
and then is now
wondering
if it's true
if the multiverse
and all its alternate realities
are really only fractions
of inches from here
from now
to whenever
and i wonder
if i found the door
to find the you
of another time
would it be
the you
who would receive me
completely
again
free to choose
without restriction
of any kind
sometimes,
ever so frequently,
it seems to me
that life isn't meant
to be so damn hard
not for you
not for me
not for the us
that almost remembers
itself
maybe the rules
we live by
are not the rules
meant for
you and i
but only for others,
just a moment
out of time
sometimes
never comes
as fast
as i desire
and never
isn't anything
i care to say
or dream
and so it is
that sometimes
i scribble poems
just like this one
just so you know
i am thinking
about you
so much more
than sometimes
